About the Sector

The Palestinian Stone and Marble Industry Sector is the largest industrial sector as measured by the most important indicators on which any country is based to measure the economic capacity of the industrial sectors, namely:

  • Contribution to GDP
  • The volume of labor
  • The volume of exports.
  • Investments in the tailings of this industry.

This sector contributes to a unit of GDP, approximately one-third of the total contribution of all industrial sectors 4.5% of the 15%. According to the Union’s estimate, this sector employs at least 25,000 direct and 20,000 indirect working hands within its member value chain. (Quarries, factory crackers, and logistics) and still needs a lot of manpower to date, the industry is geographically distributed mainly across five governors (Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus, Ramallah, and Jenin). The sector uses heavy and modern machinery that keeps pace with developments related to the stone industry’s technology and is becoming increasingly popular.

A commitment to social responsibility:

This sector has maintained its workforce during the Covid pandemic. – 19, hence the sector’s production began to gradually recover after sharply shrinking during the Covid-19 pandemic. Indications are that the industry is increasingly active throughout the value chain, as it is linked to each other. The sector employs at least 45,000 hands directly and indirectly within the value chain represented by its members. (Quarries, factory crackers, and logistics) and still needs a lot of manpower to date.

Palestinian Exports

The Palestinian building stone industry’s exports over the past nine years have amounted to approximately $1 billion. Palestinian stone has reached more than 70 countries in the world, even if the most reliance is on the Israeli market from which our imports exceed five times our exports This means that the stone industry sector is the biggest contributor to reducing this trade balance deficit with the Israeli market.

A sector that contributes significantly to the recycling of the industry's waste

First:

To take advantage of quarry residues as well as reduce the environmental impact, many men have initiated work to invest in the projects (Crushers), one of the most important projects that use all quarry outputs, even the process of extracting raw materials for manufacture in factories leaves quantities of tailings, and they are utilized efficiently through the production of construction materials that go into the construction process, not only is it a requirement.

Second:

Saws/factories: Many factories use special technology to dry liquid asthma as a result of deployment, which significantly reduces the space used to dispose of it and also reduces water consumption by an estimated 40% as a result of water reuse, Finally, this type of waste is an essential material for other industries. The Union, therefore, made its recommendations, which consist of supporting the provision of this technology to all factories in all governors.

Third:

The Union has provided smart and sophisticated solutions to take advantage of the plant waste after it is dried. The Union aspires to establish factories to recycle this waste to produce new and multiple products as a result of the very high quality of this waste.
